Leonardo DiCaprio is ready to fight with the rebellion — but first must find his daughter. On Thursday, director Paul Thomas Anderson debuted the trailer for One Battle After Another, out Sept. 26, which gives a glimpse of DiCaprio playing a kooky, revolutionary also fighting for his family.
The trailer opens with a frantic DiCaprio grabbing a payphone to call into the rebellion using secret codes. “I don’t remember that part,” DiCaprio says in the trailer. “Let’s not nitpick over the passwords.”
The teaser captures a glimpse of DiCaprio’s relationship with Teyana Taylor as they enter a real-life rebellion while he navigates parenthood, DiCaprio being pushed out of a car by Benicio del Toro, and his growing daughter learning how to shoot as Taylor does earlier in the trailer. “You are so unsuitable for my daughter,” says Taylor’s mother in the trailer. “My child comes from a whole line of revolutionaries, and you look so lost. What are you going to do about this baby?”
The upcoming film also stars Sean Penn, Regina Hall, Chase Infiniti, Wood Harris, and Alana Haim from HAIM. PT Anderson writes, directs, and serves as a producer for the film with the late Adam Somner and Sara Murphy. Will Weiske is the executive producer. The movie debuted a short teaser last week.
The film reportedly takes inspiration from Thomas Pynchon’s Vineland and filmed in California and El Paso, Texas using 35mm film. One Battle After Another marks Anderson’s first film since 2021’s Licorice Pizza, and the trailer premiered on DiCaprio’s newly launched YouTube page.
