LeBron James has given fans a sneak peek at the new Toon Squad jerseys for highly-anticipated Space Jam sequel via Twitter.
Unveiling the brightly-coloured uniforms on The LeBron James Family Foundation social media platforms, the basketball-star-turned-actor gave followers a 12-second look at the new generation of basketball jerseys that will be worn in the upcoming flick Space Jam: A New Legacy.
“Would it be the Family Reunion without a special surprise?! @mavcarter gives our I Promise families the first-ever look at @KingJames in his @spacejammovie ‘A New Legacy’ jersey!” the account tweeted.
The new jersey features the trademark circles of the Looney Tunes logo, but with a much brighter twist than the previous outfit. However, fans of the original 1996 film starring Michael Jordan will be delighted to see a nostalgic throwback with the continuation of the team’s name, “Tune Squad.”
It comes after audio was leaked earlier this week of LeBron James giving an emotional speech to the cast and crew of the film after they wrapped 58 days of shooting the sequel.
“I’m gonna be honest completely with you guys, when I found out about the project, I was like it’s Space Jam!” LeBron said in the clip. “It’s a movie that I grew up watching. People in the movie that I idolise. I was like absolutely, I gotta do it. There’s no way I can turn down Space Jam.”
The NBA star continued: “I’m just a small kid from Akron, Ohio —a very small town outside of Cleveland. From a single-parent household, I’m the only child, my mother had absolutely nothing.”
“She was walking around high school when she was 16 years old and she was pregnant with me as a high school sophomore. So, I’m really not supposed to be here.”
“Growing up in the inner city, as an African-American kid, there’s no way you’re supposed to fucking make it out,” he continued, adding, “And, the fact that I’m who I am as an African-American adult now with three kids of my own, and I made it out of the situations that I was in. This shit is like extra credit for me man.”
Space Jam: A New Legacy is set to hit Australian cinemas September 9th, 2021.
