Jamie Foxx will commence filming a new hostage action movie in Australia next week.
Deadlocked, for Amazon MGM Studios, will film in Victoria and is hoped to inject $36 million into the local economy and generate over 855 jobs for local cast and crew, including 1,000 extras.
The production will also aim to employ 14 Victorians in Heads of Department roles, as well as 60 jobs in post-production, while also supporting 370 Victorian businesses ranging from screen industry experts working in armoury, safety and stunts, and general service providers.
The streets of Melbourne will be transformed into New York City, with filming to take place across the CBD, Docklands and Port Melbourne.
In Deadlocked, directed by Nikhil Bhat, Foxx plays “a grieving former Marine serving jury duty who is forced back into action when a high-profile trial turns into a deadly hostage situation, as the defendant’s daughter seizes the courthouse to free her father.”
Alongside the Oscar winner, the cast includes Sasha Calle (The Rip), KiKi Layne (Vought Rising), Luke Hemsworth (Westworld), Donné Ngabo (Last Days), Josh McConville (Black Snow), Darcy Bryce (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga), Jane Allsop (One More Shot), and Stephen Hall (Shaun Micallef’s Mad as Hell).
“Deadlocked filming in Melbourne is another huge vote of confidence in our crews, our locations and our talent,” Minister for Creative Industries, Vicki Ward, said.

“We’re proud to have locked in Deadlocked, creating more than 855 local jobs and injecting $36 million into our economy.”
VicScreen CEO, Caroline Pitcher, added: “Melbourne is once again set to take centre stage, with Deadlocked filming action scenes next weekend. From the CBD to Docklands Studios Melbourne, Victoria offers the locations, infrastructure and talent that global productions need. Deadlocked will deliver real benefits for the Victorian screen industry and the wider economy.”
Deadlocked is the latest international project to film in Victoria, following Skeletons with Brie Larson, and “Empire City” starring Gerard Butler.
