Harvey Weinstein has been hospitalized after testing positive for Covid-19 and double pneumonia as he deals with a “myriad of health conditions,” a representative for the imprisoned former movie mogul confirmed to NBC News Thursday.
Prison consultant Craig Rothfeld told the outlet that the disgraced Hollywood executive was currently at Bellevue Hospital Prison Ward, and dealing with “conditions that he is still afflicted with on a daily basis such as diabetes, high blood pressure, spinal stenosis, fluid on his heart and lungs, and various other conditions.”
“In addition, Mr. Weinstein tested positive for COVID and contracted double pneumonia in his lungs,” Rothfeld said.
An attorney for Weinstein did not immediately respond to Rolling Stone‘s request for comment.
The health update from Weinstein comes just a few weeks after he appeared at a Manhattan criminal court for a hearing on discovery and compliance on July 9. There, Assistant District Attorney Nicole Blumberg noted that prosecutors are continuing to investigate an alleged “violent matter” with the possibility of presenting additional charges against him during an upcoming trial, per the Associated Press.
Blumberg claimed that the investigation into new claims from additional women with assault allegations delayed prosecutors in summoning a grand jury. In May, Blumberg stated that “some people who were not ready to speak out in 2020 now appear ready to do so.”
Weinstein was found guilty of criminal sexual assault in the first degree and rape in the third degree at the original trial in February 2020. He was sentenced to 23 years in prison based on testimonies from Miriam Haley and Jessica Mann. Weinstein was also acquitted on three other charges including two counts of predatory sexual assault, as well as first-degree rape.
In a 77-page decision, the New York Court of Appeals panel decided that the judge who oversaw Weinstein’s trial, Justice James M. Burke, should not have allowed prosecutors to let accusers whose allegations were not part of the charges against him to testify in the trial.
