Disclosure Day has debuted at the top of the Australian box office this weekend.
Steven Spielberg’s new alien thriller grossed $3.71 million from 496 screens from Thursday, June 11th–Sunday, June 14th. The film, which stars Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson and Colman Domingo, imagines a world reckoning with the revelation that humanity may not be alone — marking Spielberg’s return to the alien-encounter territory he first explored with E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial more than four decades ago.
Obsession held firm in second place for its fifth weekend, grossing $2.75 million to push its Australian cumulative total to $15.81 million. Scary Movie slid from No. 1 to No. 3 in its second weekend with $1.79 million, bringing its two-week total to $6.68 million. A24’s Backrooms followed at No. 4 with $1.36 million in its third week, down 51%, for a cumulative $12.05 million.
Sony’s Masters of the Universe fell to No. 5 in its second weekend with $908,000, while Michael continued its run in eighth place, adding $880,000 in its eighth week to push its Australian gross to $44.47 million. Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu placed seventh with $584,000 in its fourth week, bringing its total to $14.11 million, and The Devil Wears Prada 2 followed at No. 8 with $441,000 in its seventh weekend, taking its cumulative gross to $41.07 million.
New entry Colony debuted at No. 10 with $318,000 from 78 screens, while the one-night event BTS World Tour ‘Arirang’ in Busan: Live Viewing placed at No. 11 with $234,000 from just 67 screens.
The overall top 20 grossed $14.14 million for the weekend, down 27% on the previous week.
