DC’s Clayface has topped the Australian box office on debut, while Taika Waititi’s star-studded Klara and the Sun failed to crack the top ten.

Clayface debuted at No. 1 with $1.89 million over the weekend (Thursday, October 22nd – Sunday, October 25th), knocking last week’s chart-topper, Street Fighter – which still earned $1.16 million this weekend – into second place. The latter has now grossed $4.09 million in Australia.

Amazon MGM’s Verity held steady at No. 3, adding $857,000. Now in its fourth week of release, the film has accumulated $11.38 million at the local box office.

Another newcomer, Wildwood, debuted at No. 4 with $820,000, including advanced screenings. Universal’s Sense and Sensibility rounded out the top five, taking $702,000 in its second weekend.

Two more new releases entered the chart in sixth and seventh place. The Songs of John Farnham: A Living Legend – The Celebration Concert Encore, which returned to cinemas after blitzing the box office last month, brought in $461,000, while Ali G: Who Iz I? debuted with $430,000.

Paramount’s Heart of the Beast slipped from sixth to eighth place, earning $399,000 in its fifth weekend. Its Australian total now stands at $7.72 million. The Odyssey returned to the top ten, climbing from No. 11 to No. 9 in its 15th week of release. The film earned $354,000, and has now crossed the $70 million mark in Australia.

Rounding out the top ten was Jailer 2, which fell from second to tenth place. The Wanderlust Films release took $336,000 in its second weekend – a sharp decline from its $1.42 million opening.

Another newcomer, Taika Waititi’s Klara and the Sun, missed out on a top ten debut, opening at No. 13 with just $257,000. Despite a stacked cast – Jenna Ortega, Amy Adams, Rachel House, Steve Buscemi, Natasha Lyonne, and more – the film recorded a screen average of just $993 over its opening weekend.
