Spider-Man: Brand New Day has shown little sign of slowing down at the Australian box office, holding onto the No. 1 spot for a third consecutive weekend.
The latest Marvel instalment generated another $9.36 million between Thursday, August 13th and Sunday, August 16th, pushing its Australian total to a massive $69.30 million.
It follows another dominant weekend for the Tom Holland and Zendaya-led blockbuster, which earned $17.14 million in its second week after opening with $30.43 million earlier this month. The film has remained comfortably ahead of the competition since its arrival, with its opening marking the second biggest ever recorded in Australia.
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey also continued its strong run in second place, adding $3.65 million in its fifth weekend. Its Australian haul now stands at $52.8 million, meaning the two films at the top of the chart have each crossed the $50 million mark.
The highest new entry of the weekend was The End of Oak Street, which debuted at No. 3 with $1.57 million. One Night Only followed in fourth place, earning $423,000 across its opening weekend. Including advance screenings, the film has now grossed $587,000 in Australia.
KATSEYE: Wild Hearts rounded out the top five with $359,000 in its opening weekend, taking its cumulative total to $454,000 when advance screenings are included. Further down the chart, Toy Story 5 added another $257,000 in sixth place, bringing its lengthy Australian run to $46 million, while Holy Days earned $232,000 for a cumulative $848,000.
Tamil title Vishwanath & Sons debuted at No. 8 with $225,000, followed by Moana, which added another $200,000 to reach $15.9 million. Hindi title Awarapan 2 rounded out the Australian top 10, earning $180,000 across its opening weekend.

According to Hoyts, the top 10 films together contributed to 94% of the total national gross box office for the weekend.
