Rosie O’Donnell said that she has applied for Irish citizenship amid ongoing attacks from her longtime foe, President Donald Trump.

O’Donnell, who is currently performing in Australia, moved to Ireland after Trump’s re-election last year, calling it a “self-imposed” political exile in a new interview with the Daily Telegraph. She added, “I am applying and about to be approved for my Irish citizenship, as my grandparents were from there, and that’s all you need. It will be good to have my Irish citizenship, especially since Trump keeps threatening to take away mine.”

In response to this, a White House spokesperson, Abigail Jackson, told Fox News: “What great news for America!”

O’Donnell and Trump have been enemies for nearly two decades at this point, but their feud has seen a significant resurgence recently, even dovetailing with the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown. Earlier this summer, as Trump started to push for an end to birthright citizenship for the children of immigrants born in the United States, he threatened to strip O’Donnell of her U.S. citizenship even though she was born in the U.S.

In a Truth Social post, Trump said O’Donnell was “not in the best interests of our Great Country,” called her a “Threat to Humanity,” and said she “should remain in the wonderful Country of Ireland, if they want her.”

At the time, O’Donnell responded: “You call me a threat to humanity – but I’m everything you fear: a loud woman, a queer woman, a mother who tells the truth, an American who got out of the country b4 u set it ablaze. You are everything that is wrong with America.”

Even amid the lawless chaos of the second Trump administration, it does seem highly unlikely that O’Donnell would actually lose her U.S. citizenship. But even still, Trump’s attacks have forced her to take some precautions. Last month, O’Donnell told the No Filter podcast that she skipped her daughter’s college graduation in the U.S., saying, “I didn’t go back because the security people said to me they didn’t think it was wise. Because I think Trump will use me to rile his base.”
