America continues to reckon with the killing of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent on Wednesday, with prominent figures and protesters responding with a mix of outrage at Donald Trump and his administration and condolences for Good and her family.

Minneapolis held a candlelit vigil for Good on Wednesday night amid protests against ICE’s heightened presence in the city. Demonstrations were simultaneously held in cities like Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, and New York.

On Thursday, the Minnesota Timberwolves held a moment of silence for Good at the Target Center arena ahead of their game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. “Our community has suffered yet another unspeakable tragedy,” Timberwolves Coach Chris Finch said during the acknowledgement. “We want to just convey our condolences and heartfelt wishes and prayers and thoughts to the families and loved ones and all of those that are greatly affected by what happened.”

Earlier in the day, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz announced that he had placed the state’s National Guard on standby, as the Trump administration has insisted that ICE will not back down despite the outrage over Good’s killing, which the president and his allies have claimed was justified despite video indicating Good was attempting to leave the scene when she was shot.

Several notable figures across the entertainment industry have been making it clear that they aren’t buying the government’s story.

Singer Billie Eilish on Friday reposted several images condemning ICE on her Instagram Stories, including one which read: “ICE IS A FEDERALLY FUNDED AND SUPPORTED TERRORIST GROUP UNDER THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY THAT HAS DONE NOTHING TO MAKE OUR STREETS SAFER.” Eilish shared a second post featuring the names of the 32 individuals who died in ICE custody over the course of 2025 — one of the deadliest years in the agency’s 22 year history.

Sonic Youth guitarist and singer Thurston Moore also addressed the shooting on social media, writing that “2026 will be a year of extreme Federal violence – starting immediately.” Moore also shared a post from Refuse Fascism describing ICE as “Trump’s gestapo” on his Instagram.

The Late Show host Stephen Colbert bashed the Trump administration’s response to the shooting during his Thursday night broadcast. “It sure looks like a federal agent gunned down an American citizen without cause in front of witnesses on a city street. But the administration is telling you that you didn’t see that. They’re saying you saw him respond to an act of domestic terrorism. They’re telling you to believe them and not your eyes,” he said.

“The message from this administration is clear,” Colbert added. “Only they determine the truth, and when their forces come to your city, obey or die — and if you die, you clearly didn’t obey.”

Stranger Things actor Joe Kerry went after Trump in an Instagram post, writing “zero human decency, stop this man” over a screenshot of Trump’s Truth Social post describing Good as a “professional agitator” who had attempted to run over ICE agents.

Sex & The City actress Cynthia Nixon wrote “Abolish ICE!!!” on her Instagram Story, followed by a call to “arrest that ICE agent and charge him with murder!!!”

Marvel actor Simu Liu wrote on social media that he was “beyond appalled at the murderous actions of ICE agents in Minneapolis. Don’t be manipulated by rhetoric; there is a video, and it clearly shows the murder of an unarmed woman driving away. AWAY Immigration laws can be enforced in a dignified way. fuck ICE forever.”

Poet Amanda Gorman, meanwhile, paid tribute to Good — herself an award-winning poet — in a composition published on social media on Friday.

The Trump administration has continued to baselessly malign Good as a violent agitator and domestic terrorist. On Friday, Good’s wife, Becca Good, issued her first public statement, writing that Good “lived by an overarching belief: there is kindness in the world and we need to do everything we can to find it where it resides and nurture it where it needs to grow.”

“The people who did this had fear and anger in their hearts,” she added, “and we need to show them a better way.”
