During the last episode of Hulu’s The Kardashians, Kim Kardashian endorsed the conspiracy theory that the 1969 moon landing was faked.
While on the set of the upcoming All’s Fair drama series, Kardashian attempted to convince her co-star, Sarah Paulson, that the trip beyond Earth’s orbit wasn’t real. “I’m sending you a million articles with both Buzz Aldrin and the other one,” Kardashian tells Paulson on the episode.
The reality TV star then proceeds to read an article mentioning Buzz Aldrin — the astronaut who journeyed on the Apollo 11 mission alongside Neil Armstrong and Michael Collins — that she claims points to a hoax. “I center conspiracies all the time,” says Kardashian, who later reiterates on camera that she believes the landing never happened.
NASA acting administrator Sean Duffy refuted Kardashian’s comments on Thursday, writing on X: “Yes, @KimKardashian , we’ve been to the Moon before… 6 times!” Duffy also took the opportunity to mention that the Artemis program is “going back under the leadership” of President Donald Trump. “We won the last space race and we will win this one too,” Duffy added.
As for that viral clip of Aldrin that Kardashian appears to be referring to — Reuters published a report in 2022 debunking conspiracy theories that the moon landing wasn’t real. The outlet addressed the claims, writing, “social media users are sharing a video of astronaut Buzz Aldrin being interviewed by American television host Conan O’Brien and claiming that Aldrin discussing parts of the moon landing broadcasts being animated is proof that it was all faked.”
Clarifying that the video was taken out of context, the organization stated that Aldrin was referring to “animations used by broadcasters at the time in their coverage of the moon landing, intercut with real footage,” before fact-checking disbelievers: “The moon landing did take place, and men did walk on the moon.”
