Kimberly Van Der Beek has now been grieving the death of her husband, James Van Der Beek, for three months. In an Instagram post, the actor’s wife shared an emotional update about what this period has been like for her and how she plans to move forward.

“To say I’m heartbroken is a severe understatement. Words just don’t capture what grief is,” Kimberly wrote. “The comforts of shock have worn off. The reality is settling in… and I miss him. We all miss him.” The caption accompanies a nine-slide photo gallery capturing Van Der Beek with their six children. Even without him physically present, Kimberly continued, she still feels connected to him.

“Yet, there is a different kind of magic in the air. I feel him. I know him more deeply,” she wrote. “My conscious connection to God has deepened. The veils of the universe have thinned. And I trust that this is the path me and my family have always been intended to walk.”

Kimberly also took a moment to acknowledge the support her family has received in the wake of Van Der Beek’s death in February. The actor died at 48 following a battle with colorectal cancer, and the costs of his care left the family “out of funds.” A GoFundMe launched for them raised more than $2.6 million in a matter of days.

“The outpouring of support has been tremendous. It’s held our family in the most beautiful of way,” Kimberly said. “You all went absolutely above and beyond anything I could have ever expected in supporting us and honoring James. I am deeply grateful. There is so much more to share here. And in time- I will.”
