The bystander who bravely tackled one of the gunmen in the Bondi Beach terror attack has been identified.
12 people were killed at a Hanukkah event at the Sydney hotspot on Sunday (December 14th), following a terror attack by two gunmen.
Following the attack, a video of the attacks started spreading across news channels and social media. In one video, a man could be seen grabbing one of the gunmen as he fired on a crowd, managing to take the gun from him and pointing it at him.
As per 7News, the brave bystander has been identified as Ahmed al Ahmed, a 43-year-old father of two.
The man’s cousin, identified as Mustafa, told the publication that Ahmed later suffered bullet wounds to his arm and hand after taking on the gunman.
“He’s in hospital, and we don’t know exactly what’s going on inside,” Mustafa said. “We do hope he will be fine. He’s a hero 100 per cent.”
According to 7News, Ahmed hails from Sydney’s Sutherland Shire and owns a fruit business.

Although they didn’t name him, Australian authorities were quick to praise the bystander’s actions.
Chris Minns, the Premier of New South Wales, described the video as the “most unbelievable scene I’ve ever seen.”
“A man walking up to a gunman who had fired on the community and single-handedly disarming him, putting his own life at risk to save the lives of countless other people,” he said.
“That man is a genuine hero, and I’ve got no doubt that there are many, many people alive tonight as a result of his bravery.”
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also praised the actions of Australians who had “run towards danger in order to help others.”
Albanese addressed the situation in a seperate press conference late last night. “This is a targeted attack on Jewish Australians on the first day of Hanukkah, which should be a day of joy, a celebration of faith,” he said.
“An act of evil anti-semitism, terrorism, that has struck the heart of our nation. An attack on Jewish Australians is an attack on every Australian.”
