Potts Point wears its history well. From its art deco apartments to the impact of the bohemian artists the neighbourhood attracted in the 1950s and 1960s, the inner-east suburb is now one of Sydney’s most creative pockets.

Right in the heart of the suburb, you’ll find Hotel Indigo Sydney Potts Point. The boutique accommodation has been designed as a respite for visitors who want to experience the creative hum of the neighbourhood first-hand. Staying in the centre of the walkable area means you can wander the leafy streets, visit its many cafés and boutiques, and soak up the creative inspiration of the inner city suburb.

Here’s how to spend a weekend exploring the neighbourhood.

Mix with the Local Creatives

Step into any local Potts Point café and you’ll find a number of creatives using the city as their office. Spots like Room Ten and Primary Coffee Roasters offer caffeine to the city’s writers, artists, and musicians. You can find Room Ten down Llankelly Place, one of Potts Point’s rare laneways.

Love Music?

Get your daily dose of everything happening in Australian/New Zealand music and globally.

The National Art School is located close by in Darlinghurst, so expect to see the next generation of artistic talent finding inspiration in the neighbourhood. If you want to support some local theatre, head to Griffin Theatre Company, also in nearby Darlinghurst. (It’s where one of Australia’s greatest acting exports, Cate Blanchett, got her start.) The Old Fitz Theatre, located in nearby Woolloomooloo, also puts the spotlight on local actors and comedians.

Experience the Night Life

While many of the infamous clubs in Kings Cross may have fallen victim to the city’s lockout laws, Potts Point hasn’t lost its pulse. It’s always been the late-night heart of Sydney, and you can still find venues to soak up the nightlife. The Kings Cross Hotel offers six floors of entertainment, featuring DJs, live music, and a range of pub food and drinks.

Potts Point Hotel is another local pub that offers cold, crisp beers, live music and nightlife with some energy. If bars are more your jam, Jangling Jack’s low-lit blues bar and Dulcie’s cocktail bar are perfect places to soak up the creative buzz of the Cross.

Vintage Sourcing

Sometimes simply wandering the suburb and meandering through stores and racks can offer some creative inspiration. Potts Point has several independent boutiques that have been located in the suburb for decades. In a world of fast fashion, independent merchants and local creators can offer a welcome appreciation for carefully crafted products.

Arida is a boutique that features luxury international clothing, while Macleay on Manning is a Potts Point staple for kitchy paraphernalia. If you prefer to scout for second-hand treasures, the Wayside Chapel Shop and Potts Point Vintage are your best bet.

Whether you want to stay in for dinner after soaking up some theatre or use it as a crash landing pad post-Kings Cross hangout, Hotel Indigo Sydney Potts Point lets you be at the centre of the cultural hub.
