Sydney duo Pamela have released their long-awaited debut EP, It’s Nice to See You Here – described as a six-track introduction to a band carving out their own distinct space in modern indie-pop.
The EP moves through the contradictions of modern relationships, touching on topics including romance, heartbreak, lust, and uncertainty. Across hazy guitars, groove-driven hooks and dual vocals that are both detached and intimate, Pamela move with a confidence that feels refreshingly understated.
Alongside the EP, the duo – Sarah Ellen and Josh Kempen – have unveiled the video for opening song “Pandemonium” and announced their first-ever headline tour, taking them across the UK and France this July before they return home for a run of Australian dates in August (see dates below). Playful, cinematic and immediately infectious, the track sets the tone for the EP, embracing life’s emotional contradictions rather than trying to resolve them.
“Inspired by Bonnie and Clyde, I wanted to celebrate unconventional partnerships and create a film that feels like the trailer for a movie that doesn’t exist – surreal, cinematic and held together by the beautifully absurd spirit of the song,” Ellen said of the song’s music video. Pamela’s multidisciplinary approach has become central to the project – Ellen and Kempen conceptualise, direct and edit every music video themselves, drawing on Ellen’s background in creative direction and production and Kempen’s lifelong obsession with cinema.
The release of It’s Nice to See You Here follows a breakout year for the duo. Recent singles “Skin Contact”, “Chain Reaction”, and “Better Than Before” introduced their hook-filled indie-pop to an ever-growing audience, while showcases at The Great Escape marked their international live debut.
To celebrate the release of the EP, Pamela performed a high energy In My Room session for Rolling Stone AU/NZ. Check it out above!
