Sydney art-pop artist Montaigne is hitting the road next month to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their award-winning debut album Glorious Heights.

Released in 2016, Glorious Heights – which debuted at No. 4 on the ARIA Albums Chart and led to an ARIA win for Breakthrough Artist – introduced Montaigne as one of Australia’s most singular voices that could soar, snarl and shatter in equal measure. Ten years later, its songs, like “Because I Love You” and “Clip My Wings”, still land with the same emotional force.

Montaigne’s anniversary run – their first national tour in four years – will feature the record in full for the first time, alongside a selection of songs from across their catalogue. The tour will kick off in Wollongong on August 7th, before stops in Newcastle, Perth, Adelaide, the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Sydney, Frankston, Melbourne, and Castlemaine.

“It’s been a few years since I did a national tour and I’m really excited to bring my audience together once again to sing, laugh, and cry together, especially for these songs which are especially powerful in a communal setting,” they said.

“I’m so much more confident on stage now than I was 10 years ago and I can’t wait to bring an unfiltered, theatrical experience that hopefully inspires folks to feel free and expressive in their own lives.”

Tickets are on sale now here.

The anniversary tour follows an eventful decade for Montaigne. Since the release of Glorious Heights, they’ve represented Australia at the Eurovision Song Contest, collaborated with David Byrne, and became one of a small number of Australian musicians to receive a Grammy nomination through their work with composer Austin Wintory on the musical video game Stray Gods.

Last year, Montaigne released their first fully self-produced album, it’s hard to be a fish, which received nominations for the Australian Music Prize and the AIR Awards’ Best Independent Pop Album or EP. Their collaboration with Tom Cardy, “Red Flags”, has amassed more than 170 million YouTube views, while recent touring has included a 31-date run across Europe and the UK with Icelandic artist Daði Freyr.
