For more than two decades, Australian creative Jess Macc has helped shape the visual identity of the country’s music scene from behind the camera. Now, after years spent documenting the stories of others, she’s finally stepping into focus herself.
Across photography, production, podcasting, and filmmaking, Macc has worked with a broad cross-section of Australian artists, including Kasey Chambers, Bachelor Girl, Troy Cassar-Daley, Danielle Spencer, The Veronicas, and Casey Donovan.
Now, she has released her debut album, Sex, Meds & Therapy, marking a deeply personal new chapter. Out today, the 11 track record arrives as the culmination of years quietly spent writing songs.
Produced by Daniel Natoli at A Sharp Recording Studio and Kiln Studios, Sex, Meds & Therapy blends alt-country bite, indie-rock energy and raw singer-songwriter intimacy, moving through themes of love, addiction, vulnerability and resilience.
The album traces the emotional terrain of adulthood with unflinching vulnerability and sharp storytelling – from the restless nostalgia of “Buses and Trains” by Bachelor Girl to the reflective closing piano ballad “These Days”. Last year, Macc performed some of the tracks for an In My Room session with Rolling Stone AU/NZ – check it out here.
“Songwriting has been running quietly alongside my whole career,” Macc said. “These songs were building in the background for a long time – Sex, Meds & Therapy is the moment they finally became a record.”
