Ocean Alley are celebrating 10 years of their debut album Lost Tropics, which launched them from Northern Beaches favourites to one of the country’s biggest live exports.

To mark the anniversary, the band have unveiled a three-part archival music video series featuring restored footage from their early years, revisiting fan favourites “Pretty Little Devil”, “Hold On”, and “Feel”.

They’ve also announced a limited 10th anniversary vinyl repress of Lost Tropics, available exclusively through their store, with two variants – limited to 500 copies each. The vinyl will go on sale at 4pm (AEST) today – see here for details.

Released independently on May 13th, 2016, following their Yellow Mellow and In Purple EPs, Lost Tropics blended the band’s reggae grooves with psychedelic surf-rock, jazz influences and hazy prog textures, laying the foundation for the signature Ocean Alley sound that would soon inspire a wave of Australian indie acts.

Recorded and mixed by Callum Howell at Jungle Studios and mastered by Steve Smart at Studios 301, the album’s hallmarks were already unmistakable across its 11 tracks, including frontman Baden Donegal’s laidback vocal delivery, fluid guitar lines, and dreamy psychedelia.

Tracks like “Lemonworld”, “Holiday”, and “Partner In Crime” quickly became staples of the band’s catalogue, with the latter taking on a second life after Ocean Alley performed it alongside Meg Mac at triple j’s One Night Stand in 2019.

Ten years on, Lost Tropics has amassed more than 230 million streams globally, while both “Holiday” and “Lemonworld” have achieved ARIA Platinum certification. The album has also continued to find new audiences long after its original release, re-entering the ARIA Australian Albums Chart following a Record Store Day reissue in 2021 and again in 2023.

The anniversary arrives amid an extraordinary period of growth for the band. In the decade since Lost Tropics, Ocean Alley have evolved from cult favourites into one of Australia’s most successful touring acts. The album’s release coincided with a breakthrough 40-date European run, including sold-out shows across Germany and the Netherlands, helping kickstart an international ascent that has since taken them to festivals including Lollapalooza, Sziget Festival, and Austin City Limits Music Festival, alongside headline performances at London’s Alexandra Palace and tours throughout Central and South America.

Back home, the group have scaled from pub rooms to arenas, most recently selling more than 80,000 tickets across their 2026 Australian and New Zealand headline tour.

The four albums that followed – Chiaroscuro (2018), Lonely Diamond (2020), Low Altitude Living (2022), and 2025’s Love Balloon – have further cemented the band’s status, producing 10 singles certified Gold or higher across Australia, New Zealand and the US. Their breakout hit “Confidence” became a global viral success – twice – eventually earning 6x Platinum certification and helping push Ocean Alley’s catalogue past 1.37 billion streams worldwide.

Their latest album, Love Balloon, has also become one of the biggest Australian releases of the past year, spending 32 weeks inside the ARIA Australian Albums Top 10 and returning to No. 1 multiple times during the band’s recent national tour.
