Melanie C has shared another taste of her forthcoming album Sweat, with the new single “Attitude”.

Out today (April 10th), “Attitude” is bursting with confidence and club-ready energy. It captures the rush of stepping fully into your power and leans into the dance floor spirit shaping Melanie’s new era.

“‘Attitude’ is that rush of adrenaline you get when you decide you’re done playing small. I’ve always believed in strength through self-belief, and this song is that feeling turned all the way up. It’s fearless, it’s playful, it’s a little bit cheeky – but at its heart, it’s about confidence and independence,” she said of the track.

“There’s a defiance in it, but it’s joyful. I wanted it to feel bold and a bit dangerous. That magnetic energy when you meet someone who matches your fire; you’re not looking to be saved, you’re choosing to connect. There’s confidence in that choice. It’s that electric moment when you walk into a room and know exactly who you are.

“For me, ‘Attitude’ is pure energy – sassy, cool, confident – and it’s about coming through with a brand new perspective and saying, ‘Clear the room… this is me’. It’s the sound of stepping into your power and loving every second of it.”

Her ninth studio album, the euphoric, dance floor-driven record that is Sweat, was inspired by the freedom and energy of her early ’90s Costa Brava rave days. The album will arrive on May 1st, via Virgin Music Group.

On our Rolling Stone Uncut podcast late last year, she told us Sweat hopes to bing the worlds of pop and electronic music together. “I’ve wanted to inject more fun into it. It’s very much an album that has light and shade, you know?”

It’s been inspired by her love of DJing, which she picked up eight years ago. “I was like going back to people’s after parties, and the boys were getting on the decks, and it was all vinyl decks at that point. I was looking going, ‘Oh, I want to go’, but never had the courage. It wasn’t until like eight years ago when a friend of mine was like, just give it a go. I just fell in love immediately,” she said.

“It’s a journey and and everything I’ve done I’ve been so passionate about at the time, and whatever I’ve wanted to express, it’s felt right within that genre. I’m having so much fun at the moment, playing live, DJing… I think all of that is fed into the music which has made it a bit more club friendly.”

Soon she will bring her world tour Down Under, with the Australian leg kicking off at Perth’s Astor Theatre on November 11th, before stops at Northcote Theatre in Melbourne on November 13th, the Tivoli in Brisbane on November 14th, and Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on November 15th. As a member of the Spice Girls, Melanie C helped redefine global pop culture. The group have sold more than 85 million records worldwide, with their debut album Spice becoming the best-selling album by a female group in history.

They achieved No. 1 singles in 37 countries and received the BRIT Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music. Melanie C reunited with the group for the 2012 London Olympics Closing Ceremony and their sold-out 2019 UK stadium tour.

Her solo career has been equally formidable, with over 3 million albums sold worldwide, two No. 1 singles and six Top 10 hits including the Bryan Adams duet “When You’re Gone”.
