Sarah Michelle Gellar paid tribute to her Buffy the Vampire Slayer co-star Michelle Trachtenberg on the one-year anniversary of her death.
“I’m not sure how it’s been a year,” she wrote on Instagram. “I’m one of the lucky ones who has over 30 years of memories with you. From our first day on set together, to less than a year later, when you were already taller than me. But I first worked with [you] on All My Children. I watched you become a star with Harriet [The Spy].”
Trachtenberg found early success on the Nickelodeon favourite The Adventures of Pete & Pete before joining the cast of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and later had memorable roles in shows like Gossip Girl and the film EuroTrip.
“You were great to my kids,” Gellar added. “Countless kids bdays you attended even though I’m sure you had somewhere cooler to be. But most of all, when I think of you, that smile that took up your entire face and brought so much joy to others is what comes to mind. You may not have been with us long enough, but we will make sure everyone remembers.”
Trachtenberg died in Feb. 2025 at 39 years old, from complications related to diabetes mellitus. At the time of her death, Gellar wrote, “Michelle, listen to me. Listen. I love you. I will always love you. The hardest thing in this world, is to live in it. I will be brave. I will live… for you.”

Trachtenberg was also remembered by her Gossip Girl co-star Leighton Meester following news of her death. In an interview for Flaunt, Meester discussed Trachtenberg, who played Georgina Sparks on the hit CW show. “It’s devastating,” she told the publication. “She was a wonderful, talented person, and everyone loved her. It’s very, very sad for everyone who knew her.”
