Australia’s Geraldine Viswanathan Joins Cast of Amy Poehler’s New Comedy Series ‘Dig’

The ‘Thunderbolts*’ star will co-lead the comedy series from Amy Poehler and sitcom veteran Michael Schur for Peacock.

Geraldine Viswanathan, last seen as assistant-turned-whistleblower for Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s Valeria De Fontaine in Thunderbolts*, has joined the cast of Dig, a comedy series being developed by Amy Poehler and Michael Schur for Peacock, as reported by Variety.

Per the official logline, the series follows “four women working at an archeological dig in Greece who are at wildly different crossroads in their lives. When the team uncovers a long-buried secret with the potential to rewrite history, they find themselves at the center of a high-stakes international conspiracy.”

Viswanathan has been cast as Dylan, who “returns to the dig in Greece on a whim to take care of some unfinished business” after a five-year absence.

Viswanathan and Poehler will be joined by Hugh Laurie, who plays Neville, “a British professor who sincerely loves archaeology and strives to uphold the traditions of this dying profession. He fancies himself an inspiring mentor to everyone who works at the site.”

As well as Thunderbolts, Viswanathan has starred in Ethan Coen’s Drive-Away Dolls, Cory Finley’s Bad Education and Kay Cannon’s Blockers. In the world of TV, she appeared in Miracle Workers, which ran on TBS from 2019 to 2023.

Dig will be Amy Poehler’s second-ever ongoing live-action role, the first being Parks and Rec. Poehler has recently starred in Inside Out 2 and Fox’s animated series Duncanville, she has also broken into podcasting with her podcast Good Hang from The Ringer.

Michael Schur is the name behind many beloved sitcom series. He has directing and writing credits on The OfficeBrooklyn 99Parks and Rec (which he co-created with Poehler), The Good PlaceA Man on the Inside and Rutherford Falls.
