The UK artist joined the show to discuss her forthcoming album, Sweat, set for release on May 1, 2026. As well as talking about the new record, Melanie C reflects on returning to her early ’90s dance sounds, her foray into DJ’ing in the last few years and of course, the Spice Girls.

Following the recent release of Victoria Beckham’s Netflix documentary, rumours about a potential comeback for the iconic group have picked up again… and Melanie C has some thoughts.

On new album, Sweat

I think probably over the last couple of records, I’ve been leaning more towards an electronic sound. I’m a pop artist, and I always will be, and as a songwriter, that’s all of my influences. But when it comes to writing, it’s very much a pop at the heart of it, and I think as a vocalist too. But being a DJ and DJing now for almost eight years, I’ve just been really keen to try and bring those worlds a bit closer together.

I think with this album as well, I’ve wanted to inject more fun into it. It’s very much an album that has light and shade, you know?

Fan reaction to her becoming a DJ

I was like going back to people’s after parties, and the boys were getting on the decks, and it was all vinyl decks at that point. I was looking going, ‘Oh, I want to go’, but never had the courage. It wasn’t until like eight years ago when a friend of mine was like, just give it a go. I just fell in love immediately.

It’s a journey and and everything I’ve done I’ve been so passionate about at the time, and whatever I’ve wanted to express, it’s felt right within that genre. I’m having so much fun at the moment, playing live, DJing… I think all of that is fed into the music which has made it a bit more club friendly.

Life with or without the Spice Girls

Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing I would love more than to get back on stage with the girls. It’s such a privilege and an honour, because there are not many artists that get to play the size of shows that the Spice Girls can play, you know? The last tour we did was stadiums in the UK. So, that is incredible, and I know something I would never do probably as a solo artist.

But if that never were to happen, you’re right, I’m really happy. I’m loving DJing, I’m loving still creating, still making music, touring as a solo artist. I will never stop, you know? I feel like I have more opportunities now, 30 years later, than I did maybe 10-15 years ago.
