Australian music icon Pete Murray performed tracks from his new album for his Rolling Stone AU/NZ In My Room session.
Longing, his eight studio record and first independent full-length album in almost two decades, dropped earlier this month. The record journeys through blues-soaked summery charm, stripped-back gems, and effortlessly upbeat moments.
Of the album, Murray says: “[t]his is a very special album to me. It’s my second ever independent album. My first one came out in 2001, The Game. This one is special, as it’s taken 10 years to put together. It’s made up of the best songs that I hadn’t quite finished over time, I’d just kept putting them into an unfinished folder until I had enough to make it an album. And I feel it’s a really strong album because it’s 10 years worth of work and that’s a life lived. So, for me, it’s very special and I hope you guys enjoy it.”
Murray enjoyed chart success in his home country with his new album. Longing scored the highest local debut of last week, landing at No. 5 on the ARIA Albums Chart.
“I’m honestly blown away. Thank you to everyone who’s listened, shared the record, grabbed a copy or told a friend, it really means the world,” Murray said on Friday.
Murray is taking the album on tour later this year. Kicking off at The Exchange in Newcastle on December 18th, the tour will then move through regional NSW, QLD and VIC, before finishing up at Hotel Brunswick in Brunswick Heads on February 13th. Tickets are available here.
