In this new Rolling Stone AU/NZ series, we get to know the music tastes of artists through their favourite records. Next up, New Zealand duo SACHI.
This Saturday (August 23rd), Studio the Venue in Auckland will transform into a pulsing dancefloor as SACHI play an anticipated hometown show.
The performance follows the release of latest singles “Waiting All Night”, a track that distills the rush of a chaotic night out into soaring melodies and club-ready rhythms, and “Holding Your Hand”, a cool collab with Poppy Baskcomb.
“‘Waiting All Night’ is about meeting someone on a night out and feeling a connection – wondering who is going to make the move and where the night will end up,” SACHI explained.
“Waiting All Night” follows a prolific year of releases for SACHI in 2025, including their LATASHÁ collaboration “405”. More new music is slated for later this year.
“In the live environment, there’s this exchange of energy – you can’t have one part of it without the other, you can’t have the performer without the audience,” Chrisp previously told Rolling Stone AU/NZ. “We’ve always been interested in who the community is: who are these people coming to the shows, hanging outside, trying to have a conversation or get a photo? How can we be more tapped in with the audience that has found our music?”
Before hitting the stage, one half of the the duo, Will Thomas, dropped by his local Flying Nun Records for Rolling Stone AU/NZ‘s On the Record series, where artists share some of the albums that have shaped them.

On the Record with SACHI
Turnstile – GLOW ON
This album is heavy on my running rotation. Once a punk kid, always a punk kid, so this album gets me fired up when out on the trot. Love how they combine so many different genres into rock.

1975 – Brief Enquiry Into Online Relationships
They are probably my favourite band of the modern era. I have a tattoo of their logo on my arm, actually. “Give Yourself A Try” is an all-time favourite of mine. I still come back to this album every few months and give it a full listen through.
Charli XCX – Brat
Where to begin with this album! Everything about it is iconic — the roll out, the branding, the production… everything! Been a fan of Charli since 2016 so it’s amazing to see what she has grown into as an artist.
Sabrina Carpenter – Short ‘n Sweet
Something about “espresso” is infectious, from the first time I heard it I haven’t been able to get it out of my head. Seriously one of the best pop albums of late! Love her songwriting and production.

The Prodigy – The Fat of the Land
First album that really introduced me to dance music, I had never heard anything like it! I was lucky enough to see them live before Keith [Flint] died, and it was the most insane show I have ever seen.
