Dean Cain, who starred as Superman in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, has alleged that he was sexually harassed while filming the popular television series in the Nineties. During a recent interview with Variety, the actor stated, “I could have had the biggest sexual harassment lawsuit in Hollywood history.”

Cain never pursued action against the person he claims harassed him, and declined to share further details about the allegation. The outlet noted that the harassment “took a toll” on his relationship with Gabrielle Reece, the volleyball player he started dating in 1992. It went beyond the objectification he faced on set from executives and crew members. “Any guy who tells you he feels bad being objectified, I mean, really? Come on,” he said. “It’s a wonderful compliment.”

Cain also insisted that there were incidents unrelated to any harassment that could have resulted in a legal battle. He recalled being “advised not to” sue Warner Bros. over his schedule and finances from the series. “I didn’t know enough back then about residuals. Warner Bros. buries the bodies deep and makes it look like it’s lost money. There’s no possible way,” he said. “But I should have sued.”

He claimed being overworked on Lois & Clark is the reason he’s avoided television since. “There was no time to work out, because they couldn’t give me a workout clause, because then they’d have to for every other star and then it sets precedent for Warner Bros,” he said. “That’s why I haven’t done a series since. It feels like suffocating. You feel claustrophobic.” Before turning to acting, Cain was a professional football player.

Still, Cain has made appearances in a number of shows since his role as Superman ended.
