Selve are building momentum for their historic new album with a lively Rolling Stone AU/NZ In My Room session.

The Gold Coast band are set to release their second album, Breaking into Heaven, on September 12th. It will be the first full-length album by an Aboriginal artist recorded at the iconic Abbey Road Studios.

The band say the album is inspired by a quote from Nina Simone about First Nations stories: “The people who built their heaven on your land, are telling you that yours is in the sky.”

For their In My Room session, Selve performed the album’s title track, the whimsical song “Loki Horror Picture Show”, and a cover of The Beatles’ “Paperback Writer”, a nod to where the album was created.

Selve will perform the album live for the first time on August 1st at BLEACH* 2025 at HOTA in Gold Coast. The show will include a 33-piece Australian Session Orchestra, lasers, and visuals by Karul Projects dancers.

Breaking into Heaven was written across a three-stage residency that took place in Broome, France, and London, before being recorded at Abbey Road’s Studios. The band used a range of iconic equipment, including the original piano from The Beatles’ “A Day in the Life” a Fender Rhodes, Prophet synthesiser, £200,000 worth of microphones, and an original Mellotron.

Early demos were inspired by frontman Loki Liddle’s time on his Jabirr Jabirr Country. He says this connection gave the record its soul. “Taking the embers of songs sparked on my Jabirr Jabirr Country and recording that at Abbey Road, this amazing ideal and root of Rock N Roll mythology: a reclamation, reimaging and subversion of that ideal through an inspired First Nations lens has taken place.”

The band say Breaking into Heaven represents a powerful statement, placing First Nations stories on a global platform.

Selve are made up of close friends Loki Liddle (lead vocals and guitar), Reece Bowden (lead guitar), Creation Saffigna (vocals), Michael Baldi (drums), Scott French (bass), and Liam Kirk (keyboards).
