The older brother of Oasis founders Liam and Noel Gallagher has been charged with rape, three counts of sexual assault and other violent offenses, police in Britain confirm to Rolling Stone.
Paul Gallagher, 59, was charged by Scotland Yard following an investigation that started last year, a spokesperson with London’s Metropolitan Police Service said in an email on Monday.
The charges also include allegations of coercive and controlling behavior, three counts of intentional strangulation, two counts of making a threat to kill, and assault resulting in “actual bodily harm,” the official said.
Gallagher, who lives in the East Finchley district of north London, is due to appear in Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Aug. 27. “The offenses are reported to have taken place between 2022 [and] 2024,” the police spokesperson said. “A woman is being supported by specially-trained officers.”
Gallagher authored the 1997 book, Brothers: From Childhood to Oasis — The Real Story, but he is not a member of his younger brothers’ band. The news comes just weeks after Oasis kicked off its long-awaited international reunion tour.
Neither Paul nor a rep for the band immediately replied to a request for comment.
