Alex Warren’s ‘Ordinary’ Is Now a Record Holder on Australia’s Charts

“Ordinary” has now completed 17 consecutive weeks at No. 1, the longest run by an international solo artist on the ARIA Chart

There’s nothing ordinary about Alex Warren’s ARIA Chart run.

When the national singles tally was published late Friday, July 18th, Warren’s triple-platinum hit “Ordinary” (via Warner Music) remained perched at the summit.

“Ordinary” has now completed 17 consecutive weeks at No. 1, the longest stay by an international solo artist on the ARIA Chart. The singer and songwriter’s signature song draws level with “Stay”, The Kid LAROI’s hit collaboration with Canadian pop star Justin Bieber, which also ruled for 17 weeks in 2021-22.

One thing separates those two streaks. “Ordinary” is on an unbroken run at the top, while “Stay” collected its 17 weeks in two bunches — 14 weeks in 2021 and three weeks in 2022, ARIA reports.

Only one other song in the decades-long history of the ARIA Charts has logged more time at No. 1 — Australia’s Tones and I with “Dance Monkey,” which swept all before it for 24 non-consecutive weeks in 2019 and 2020.

Warren’s “Ordinary” recently completed an unprecedented 12 weeks at No. 1 on the Official UK Chart, the most consecutive weeks for a US artist at No. 1 in history, beating a mark that stood since the mid-1950s.

On the other side of the Atlantic, “Ordinary” checks in with its sixth week at No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
