There are certain indisputable facts in the music world. Stevie Nicks collects shawls. Bob Dylan dabbled in Christianity in the 1980s. Donald Fagen has feelings about the term “yacht rock” (hint: It’s “go fuck yourself”). And Liam Gallagher really, really loves Twitter.
A day before the Oasis reunion tour kicks off — an event fans have been feverishly waiting for for the last 15 years — Gallagher apologized for a racial slur he posted on X (formerly Twitter). It’s since been deleted, but screenshots show that he posted a word mocking East Asian people. When fans alerted him that the post was offensive, he replied with “Whatever,” before issuing an actual apology.
“Sorry if I offended anyone with my tweet before it wasn’t intentional you know I love you all and I do not discriminate. peace and love LG x,” he wrote.
The momentous Oasis tour kicks off on July 4 with two nights in Cardiff, Wales; it includes 41 dates across the U.K., Ireland, North America, Asia, Australia, and South America. Bassist Andy Bell will join them for the run.
Though Gallagher joked on X that a new Oasis album was on the way, their manager, Alec McKinlay, recently confirmed there’s “no plan for any new music.” However, a film is being made in conjunction with the tour, and the band recently announced a 30th anniversary deluxe edition of (What’s The Story) Morning Glory? out Oct. 3.
On June 30, as part of their recent tradition, Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong invited a fan onstage for “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life),” except the fan instead played Oasis’ “Wonderwall,” resulting in Armstrong kicking him off the stage. It should be no surprise that this deeply pleased Gallagher, who wrote on X, “Best song of the night.”
