Michael Clifford has released a new single, “kill me for always”, featuring US electronic artist Porter Robinson.
The track marks the latest preview of Clifford’s upcoming debut solo album SIDEQUEST, due out July 25 via Hopeless Records.
Co-produced by Clifford, Robinson, JT Daly, Rudey, and Oscar Neidhardt, “kill me for always” follows earlier singles “cool” and “give me a break! (featuring Waterparks)”.
“Porter Robinson has been my favourite artist for a really long time,” Clifford shared. “The idea of us creating something together was just a pipe dream to me. ‘kill me for always’ was a song that took a lot of trial and error to get this song 100% right. As the first track off my upcoming album, I think it perfectly sets the tone of the beginning of a story.”
The full track list for SIDEQUEST has been revealed, and includes 10 songs in total, including an unreleased feature with American artist Ryan Hall.
Last year, Clifford told Rolling Stone: “I’m a serial over-thinker when it comes to anything in terms of my own production. Sometimes it’s crippling, and I’ll just be completely frozen to the point where I’m like, well, I don’t know if this is good, and I don’t know if changing it is good … I’m realizing that there are other incredibly talented people who, if they think something is great, then I’m just sort of being crazy and overthinking the tiny little things. It got to the place that it got to for a reason and maybe you don’t need to dissect things into oblivion in order for it to be any better.”

With more than 18 million records sold and multiple Billboard No. 1s to his name, Clifford becomes the third 5SOS member to release solo material.
Frontman Luke Hemmings debuted with When Facing the Things We Turn Away From in 2021 and followed it up with Boy in 2024. Drummer Ashton Irwin dropped Superbloom in 2020 and returned in 2024 with Blood on the Drums. Bassist Calum Hood co-wrote Clifford’s track “Cool”, but seems to be leaning into a quieter creative phase—at least publicly—spending more time on TikTok than in the studio.
