Olivia Rodrigo paid tribute to Irish band Fontaines D.C. during her concert in Dublin last night. The singer shared a cover of the band’s hit “I Love You” as part of her performance at Marlay Park, which took place a few days before she is set to headline Glastonbury.
“Lately I’ve been obsessed with this band Fontaines D.C.,” Rodrigo told the audience. “I’ve been playing this song alone in my room for fun, and I was wondering if it’d be cool if I played it for you guys.” She offered a stripped back rendition of the song, which comes off Fontaines D.C.’s 2022 LP, Skinty Fia.
Rodrigo is currently out on her ongoing global Guts World Tour in support of her sophomore effort Guts. She is set to perform at BST Hyde Park in London on June 27 and on Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage on June 29. The tour continues in Manchester on June 30 and July 1 before Rodrigo heads to Europe for a series of solo shows and festival appearances. She’ll return to the U.S. in August for Lollapalooza.
Last month, Rodrigo performed at Governors Ball in New York City, where she brought out David Byrne for a rendition of the Talking Heads classic “Burning Down the House.” Rodrigo has made it a habit to share the stage with her musical heroes, from crashing No Doubt’s reunion at Coachella to performing “Hot to Go!” alongside Chappell Roan to inviting Jewel onstage at a Madison Square Garden gig to duetting with Tyler Childers.
