Aotearoa soul artist Lou’ana casts a spell with her new single.

“Disco Coven” is the final track written for her upcoming album DISCO WITCH, a two-part release exploring themes both cosmic and introspective.

Split into Side A and Side B, the project takes a celestial turn this winter, with the moodier second half set for release on June 21st, the winter solstice. It’s a fitting date, aligning the album’s darker tones with the longest night of the year.

Lou’ana says “Disco Coven” came through like a creative download.

“Disco Coven came through quickly like a download,” she says. “I was very much in writing season, and being the last song of the record, I was in flow, wrote the lyrics, melody and shaped the vibe, then worked with Nathan Judd (producer/arranger), Dillon Rhodes, and Dixon Nacey to carve out harmony and arrangement ideas.”

Recorded live with a full band – Nick Jones on strings, Windon Bradfield on guitar, Dan Waterson on drums, Rhodes on keys, and Judd doing double duty on bass and synths – the track spins a swirling, groove-heavy take on nu-disco that beckons you to the dancefloor.

A visualiser drops with the release, matching the track’s glittery atmosphere.

“It draws on the energy of Aphrodite and Hekate, who were the muses for this album,” explains Lou’ana. “The fire in the video represents internal alchemy, that transformation we go through when we reclaim our power. It’s mystical but grounded, echoing the song’s blend of dancefloor freedom and deeper symbolism.”

DISCO WITCH follows Lou’ana’s debut album MOONLIGHT MADNESS, which featured standout singles “Move Along” and “Feel This”. That album scored her Best Pacific Female Artist at the 2021 Pacific Music Awards and hit the Top 20 on the New Zealand Albums Chart.
