You could never accuse garage-rock trio The Grogans – Quin Grunden (lead vocals, guitar), Angus Vasic (guitar) and Jordan Lewis (drums) – of being slackers.
The Melbourne-based band have released four full-length albums in less than six years, with more new music promised for 2025.
A group with a seemingly inexhaustible supply of melodic, fuzz-drenched riffs, The Grogans have won their legion of fans the old-fashioned way: with an admirable work ethic that has seen them relentlessly tour around the country, wowing crowds with their impressive arsenal of hooky earworms.
Although they’ve always thrown different influences into the mix – surf-rock, blues, psychedelia, The Kinks and The Black Lips, among them – recent single “In My Heart”, with its upbeat whistling, gentle acoustic groove, and slide guitar, proved The Grogans are a band willing to push their sound into unexpected – and pleasing – new directions. Here’s hoping for more pleasant surprises in 2025. —James Jennings

Rolling Stone AU/NZ: How was 2024 for you? What were your biggest achievements and favourite moments?
The Grogans: 2024 was a big one for us: playing over a hundred shows was a lot of fun! A couple of rogue ones in the mix, but they keep it interesting. Some highlights were all the shows from our Find Me a Cloud album tour playing with good mates Bones and Jones. The rooms were epic, and the crowd[s] definitely brought the energy! Also, a massive part of 2024 was going over to the U.S.A., with Ocean Alley playing in some mega rooms to crazy crowds. Stoked for that opportunity and we feel really lucky they decided to take us!
Music is an increasingly crowded and competitive field. What’s one thing that makes you stand out from other artists?
The music industry is a very crowded and competitive field, and it’s not easy to navigate. I don’t think our approach is to stand out above the rest necessarily. We mainly focus on doing our own thing and not try to change at all for other people’s tastes and expectations. Hopefully, our approach to making music that we like and being honest and true to ourselves in the way we work and carry ourselves day to day shines through to people.
What’s coming up for you in 2025 and beyond? Any big shows, notable releases?
We’ve got a big 2025 in the pipeline, for sure! Can’t mention the specifics, but the shows aren’t slowing down. We’re hitting a lot of different territories, which we’re pumped for! Listen out for some new music too..
