Bella Rafflyn’s second single “Corduroy Boy” is a confident slice of grunge-pop.

You might recognise Rafflyn as the charismatic lead singer-guitarist of rising indie-pop band Coast Arcade. But since last year’s release of her debut single “Overdrive”, she has embarked on a solo project, carving out her own path. “Overdrive” peaked at No. 4 on the Hot NZ Singles Chart and she played her debut headline show at Auckland’s Tuning Fork.

“Corduroy Boy” is a guitar-heavy track, signature to Rafflyn, co-written by SIX60 bassist Chris Mac, a close mentor.

“I’ve been playing it live for the past three years and every time I play it, everyone in the audience loves it, I wanted to make sure the track fully captured the vibe and energy of a live gig and I feel like that’s what it does, it sounds huge,” Rafflyn says.

Raffyln and Mac’s songwriting on this track captures the moment when you’re at a live gig, step into the bathroom and suddenly realise you’re not as sober as you thought.

The music video features online personality Oliver Mills as the ‘Corduroy Boy’, which you can watch above.

The clip bursts with colour, from sunlight streaming through a dark room to the glow of a pink neon sign, capturing the electrifying feeling and atmosphere of a live gig: sweaty crowds, flashing lights, and high energy. This seems to be Rafflyn’s deliberate choice, reliving the vibe she sees when playing the song to a crowd.

Rafflyn featured on episode four of the new season of Georgia Lines’ popular music web series INTROS earlier this week. You can watch the episode here. Lines and Rafflyn explored life and music in a thoughtful conversation.  The latter also performed a stunning song for the host and her viewers.
