Wade Robson and James Safechuck, the two men who accused Michael Jackson of sexually abusing them as minors in the bombshell doc Leaving Neverland, look forward to their day in court with apprehension and assurance in a new clip from Leaving Neverland 2: Surviving Michael Jackson.
Directed by Dan Reed (who also helmed the original Leaving Neverland), the new film focuses on Robson and Safechuck’s years-long efforts to secure a trial for their lawsuit against Jackson’s companies, which they claim enabled and covered up his years of alleged abuse. Those civil suits were first filed 10 years ago, but the new film focuses on the latest developments in the legal saga in the wake of Leaving Neverland.
During that time, Robson and Safechuck’s complaint has twice been thrown out by the California District Court and twice revived by the California Court of Appeals. As it stands, the pair are set to finally head to trial in November 2026. (Jackson’s estate and family have repeatedly denied Robson and Safechuck’s allegations.)
“Part of me is building up this strength and this shield to go through it,” Safechuck admits in the doc. “Imagining myself in trial, in the seat, finding the strength, and fighting for little Jimmy. When it comes, I’ll be ready.”
Robson is similarly frank about what it will mean to finally take the stand, regardless of what the outcome may be. “I don’t really see how I lose,” he says. “If I get the opportunity to get back in there and get on the stand and tell the truth like I wasn’t able to for decades, that’s a win for me.”
Along with chronicling their legal case, Leaving Neverland 2, produced by Little Dot Studios, finds Robson and Safechuck reflecting on the aftermath of the original doc, as well as an interview they did with Oprah Winfrey about their allegations. Some of Jackson’s fans appear in Leaving Neverland 2, as well, some of whom continue to back Jackson and claim Robson and Safechuck are using these allegations to enrich themselves, while others talk about how they came to see the pair’s allegations as credible.
