Parcels have dropped their first single of the year, “Safeandsound”.
It’s their first release since the Leaveyourlove EP in 2024, and they’re gearing up to return to the Red Rocks Amphitheatre later this year for their US tour.
Guitarist Jules Crommelin reveals the inspiration behind the track’s lyrics came from the podcast The Cloud of Unknowing by Tom Lutz.
“He talks about the good side of not knowing; where you are, where you’re going, what time it is, your future. He shows a kind of practice in embracing the unknowable of everyday,” Crommelin explains.
Crommelin adds that he often feels overwhelmed when considering the future, and writing “Safeandsound” helped positively reframe that feeling.
“I’d also just moved to Sydney, and was feeling really happy in my backyard with its little veggie garden and the planes flying by, which is mentioned in the first verse.”
The song was tracked live by the five-piece in Sydney at Golden Retriever Studios, with the group vocals recorded together. Crommelin believes they nailed the take right after a sandwich at Angus Café in Marrickville.
Last year, Parcels performed at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre for a set that lasted over an hour. With the release of “Safeandsound”, they’ll be heading back to Red Rocks later this year, along with other US venues, for more electrifying performances.
Parcels have previously performed at other iconic US venues such as Brooklyn Steel and the Hollywood Bowl and the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, the latter show praised by Flaunt Magazine as “an enticing and unforgettable show”.
Parcels’ “Safeandsound” is out now.
