Katy Perry reteamed with Rebecca Black last night, and their joining forces is looking to last through Lifetimes — as in Perry’s so-named tour. Black, who appeared in Perry’s 2011 video for “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.),” was at her Salvation tour stop at El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles Saturday when Perry joined her for a performance of that song. Perry also got down on one knee to make a proposal to Black: that she join her for the Lifetimes Tour. And she said yes.
Perry announced the news on Instagram, where she shared a series of photos and video clips. “About to spend a lot more Fridays with @msrebeccablack,” she captioned the post. “WELCOME TO THE LIFETIMES TOUR BABES.”
In one video clip, Perry is onstage down on one knee, holding Black’s hand. “Will you…” Perry says. “Marry you?” Black inquires. “Kinda,” Perry continues, “join me on the Lifetimes Tour?” Black excitedly says, “Yes, yes, yes.” Another clip shows them performing “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.).”
Perry also included a flashback behind-the-scenes video from the song’s music video. “Rebecca and I both love Fridays,” Perry says in the clip. “So that’s why I asked her to be in this music video because Friday is like my favorite day of the week, and it’s her favorite day of the week.” Then, she goes on to explain the backstory for the concept of the video. “We used to be friends in 3rd grade and then something happened. I don’t know what happened, but…” she says. Black gestures at her goofy attire and says, “This happened.” Perry deadpans, “Well, I’m sorry I’m not a C cup.”
It’s clear the two had fun rapport 14 years ago, and with their performance last night and the accepted proposal, it’s a good bet their musical chemistry will continue through the Lifetimes Tour.
“We’re giving BPM. We’re giving celebration. We’re giving unity. We’re giving dance,” Perry told Rolling Stone of what to expect at the shows. “It will be like Disneyland on Wheels, as it always is. A feast for the eyes and the ears.”
