Kiwi indie-pop band Borderline have just dropped their new single, “When It’s Raining”.
The single premiered last year, during the band’s brilliant ‘In My Room’ session for Rolling Stone AU/NZ.
“When It’s Raining” explores solitary emotions of loneliness. It’s a piano-pumping track, where the rhythm is led by the lower end of the keys and the lyrics snag on the ears. “It’s not unfair, she talks and I’m invisible. There’s something tearing us into oblivion,” lead singer Ben Glanfield laments.
The track is “trying to capture the feeling of being completely lost in your anger and sadness; when you can’t see a future where things get better,” according to Borderline.
They also added that it captures a “universal feeling,” one where they “hope this song will make people [feel] seen and understand that they’re not alone in their struggles.”
“When It’s Raining” was recorded at Roundhead Studios in Auckland, produced by Joel Jones (Will Swinton, alayna) and Nic Manders (SIX60, Katchafire), and mastered by Vivek Gabriel (The Paper Kites, Avantdale Bowling Club).
Borderline‘s previous single “Heartbeat” was a triumph, reaching nearly 150,000 streams on Spotify since its release four months ago.
This weekend, Borderline are touring North America for the first time ever, with a stop in Austin, Texas for SXSW, followed by headlining shows in New York City and Los Angeles. SXSW Austin badges can be purchased here. Tickets for their New York City show can be found here, and for their LA show here.
Borderline are “so excited to be touring the states.”
“As four boys from New Zealand, this is the stuff you dream of and we couldn’t be more grateful to have the opportunity to explore America and share our music with the rest of the world,” they add.
Borderline’s “When It’s Raining” is out now.
