New Zealand alt-pop duo Balu Brigada made audiences shiver while making their ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! television debut.
Performing their 2024 hit “So Cold” on air, the US-based brothers Henry and Pierre Beasley didn’t have too far to travel having made the move to the US in 2022 after signing with Atlantic Records that year.
Balu Brigada once explained that their “career so far has been a series of step-by-step moments that have led us closer to our dream of writing and playing music across the world.”
The duo’s latest leap was making their late-night television debut live in front of Kimmel and his studio audience.
“So Cold” is about “tripping up on all the subtleties of the dating game.” It’s the “realisation that there’s a lot of smoke and mirrors when it comes to attraction, and that a lot of things that feel like ‘mystique’ when you’ve got beer goggles on, are actually just someone being elusive,” the brothers said of their track.
“So Cold” has amassed over 15 million streams on Spotify alone. Its released was followed by their latest single, “The Question”, which was a “dimly lit love song [they] wrote in New York,” and is also about being careful within romance.
“Well I guess it depends, will you love me ’til the end? When all the lights go out, will you tell them all again?” the chorus ponders.
Last month, Balu Brigada made it to No. 4 on the Spotify Aotearoa Music Global Impact List. Yesterday, they completed their sold-out first ever US headline tour titled ‘Can’t Be Your Dog Tour’.
They were left “pretty speechless that [fans[ sold out [their[ first headline tour of U.S so fast!!!!!!”
From April, Balu Brigada are touring the globe opening for Twenty One Pilots on their ‘Clancy World Tour’ in the UK and Europe. The brothers previously joined the North American leg.
