Swedish papal metal act Ghost will return with a new album, Skeletá, this April, with a newly anointed pope as frontman.
Ahead of the April 25 release of Skeletá, Ghost’s first album since 2022’s Impera, the band have shared the video for the demonic first single “Satanized,” which also gives fans their first look at Papa V Perpetua, who recently ascended to the Ghost throne following the reign of Papa Emeritus. (All of the pontiffs are, in reality, Tobias Forge, the creative mastermind behind the project, who often assumes different papal personas on new albums.)
“We wish to inform you that with just a few plumes of smoke our PERPETUAL state of anticipation has subsided,” the band wrote of the conclave. “We learned patience is key to opening any door in life. Let us celebrate the crowning of Papa V Perpetua and the announcement of Ghost’s six-six-sixth psalm, Skeletá.” The album is available to preorder now.
Papa V Perpetua will make his onstage debut when Ghost embark on their Skeletour World Tour, which includes a North American arena leg. His Holiness will also perform solo at Ozzy Osbourne’s farewell show in England.
