It’s officially Foley time.
The Kiwi pop group, who relocated to Sydney last year, dropped That’s Life, Baby!, their highly anticipated second album, last month.
Alongside the release came an electric music video for the title track, and the duo of Ash Wallace and Gabriel Everett exclusively shared with Rolling Stone AU/NZ a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the shoot. Check out the BTS footage above and the official music video below.
Directed by Tom Grut, the clip takes us from a laundromat to a joyride in a convertible, before landing on Muriwai Beach, where the duo dance into the sunset.
Foley describe That’s Life, Baby! as a “collection of stories and experiences from the last year, each track describing an interaction with those around us, or a realisation within ourselves, that has had a lasting impact on us as people; each one a little slice of our lives.”
They add: “That’s Life, Baby! reflects a new dynamic in the way we’re writing about our feelings and thoughts. We’re no longer trying to find answers or navigate life with songs like we used to – we know that life’s going to throw everything at us and sometimes you just have to roll with it. We’re accepting the messiness, the chaos and the joy that comes with everything. It’s a nuanced distinction but feels really fresh and light, and bubbly for us as we grow up. That’s Life, Baby!”
Foley have also announced a limited run of album launch shows across New South Wales and Victoria, plus a pair of dates supporting their friends Strange Talk over the next two months (see full dates on their offical website here).
Our review called That’s Life, Baby! an “electropop gem.”
“A collection full of shimmering vocals, dynamic guitars and hooks that stick, all delivered with newfound confidence. Standout tracks like ‘Low and High’, ‘Unstable’, and ‘Heartstrings’ tackle love, loss, and trauma with a light-hearted touch. Even when it gets a little aspirational, like on ‘Time of My Life’, it works,” the review read.
“Bright, punchy, and full of their signature confessional style, That’s Life, Baby! is a slice-of-life with the attitude to take on whatever comes your way. Foley’s second album should bring them to a wider audience.”
That’s Life, Baby! follows Foley’s 2023 debut album, Crowd Pleaser, which earned a four-star review and landed at #16 on our Best New Zealand Albums of 2023 countdown.
