‘In My Room’ with dogworld

The rising post-punk band performed a highlight from their 2024 debut EP for their Rolling Stone AU/NZ ‘In My Room’ session

Dogworld performed a swooning gem from their 2024 debut EP for their Rolling Stone AU/NZ ‘In My Room’ session.

Formed in Canberra and now based in Melbourne, dogworld are a potent post-punk band that effortlessly incorporates elements of other genres, including alt-country, jazz, and indie-rock, into their vibrant sound.

They released their first record, RANGE, in the middle of last year, which confirmed the raw promise they’d shown on a string of singles since 2022.

RANGE came together over a four-day writing retreat on Yuin Country, where collaborative writing was the objective.

When it came time to record, the four-piece – Yasmine Hosseini (rhythm guitar), Ella Tinney (drums), Jesse Dowley (bass), and Max Sturm (lead guitar, sampler) – traded vocals with ease, bringing tracks to life in free-flowing sessions.

“We are so excited to bring these songs into the world as we feel they embody, truly, the sum of our parts and the creative potential we are starting to build as musicians,” the band shared at the time of release. “This EP is something we will all cherish as the marker of our deep bond and our varied range of interests, coming together into one body of work that represents us completely.”

Garnering attention both at home and overseas (Apple Music Radio 1’s Matt Wilkinson hailed them as an “Australian band worth your time”), dogworld were recognised with a showcase slot at SXSW Sydney 2024.

For their ‘In My Room’ session, performed the quietly beautiful “Country”, a RANGE track that sounded closer to Big Thief than King Krule and emphasised dogworld’s comfort in traversing genres.

If you’re in Melbourne this week, you can catch dogworld at Brunswick Music Festival. They’re playing at The Bergy Seltzer on Sunday, March 2nd, and they’ll be back at the same venue on Wednesday, March 5th. Find out more information here.
