Jess Macc is back, and she’s bringing the heat. The Sydney-based singer-songwriter returns with “Chemistry”, a fiery alt-country anthem co-written and produced by Daniel Natoli.
The gritty track captures the raw, magnetic energy of undeniable attraction—where logic flies out the window, and instinct takes over.
“‘Chemistry’ is about that wild, explosive feeling when your brain chemistry is completely rewired by someone—when attraction goes beyond logic, and you’re just caught in the madness of it,” Macc explains. “It’s raw, it’s electric, and it’s completely out of your control.”
The single was first penned by Macc as a stripped-back acoustic piece before she teamed up with Natoli, who built an intricate arrangement around her initial demo.
The track was recorded at A# Recording Studio and Kiln Studios in Sydney, layering blistering guitars with country-rock grit and an emotional vocal performance that hits like a freight train.
But “Chemistry” isn’t just about the music—it’s a full-blown artistic experience. The single’s artwork is a collaborative effort between legendary music photographer Chris Cuffaro and mixed-media artist Sam Patterson-Smith. Cuffaro, best known for his iconic portraits of Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden, shot the original photo, which was then transformed by Patterson-Smith into a bold, layered visual piece.
“We wanted it to look like the cover of a school science book that’s been scribbled on in class,” says Patterson-Smith. The result? A chaotic, vibrant, and rebellious image that perfectly encapsulates the unfiltered passion of the song.
Macc has long been a creative powerhouse, wearing multiple hats as a musician, photographer, videographer, and producer. But 2025 marks a new era—one where she’s stepping back into the spotlight with more fire than ever. “Chemistry” is just the beginning of a series of singles she plans to release this year, each one a chapter in her evolving sound and storytelling.
Beyond the music, she’s launching a new podcast, Macc n Cheese, where she’ll sit down with musicians, actors, chefs, and creatives from all walks of life to talk about the highs and lows of the creative process.
For fans itching to see her live, Macc is set to hit the stage on February 23rd at Lazybones in Marrickville, celebrating the release of “Chemistry” with an intimate performance.
