Bet you didn’t see this one coming.
Australian duo Empire of the Sun have announced that a deluxe version of their latest album, Ask That God, is set to drop next week, which will also feature a brand new song with US heavyweight, Lindsey Buckingham.
The Fleetwood Mac legend will feature on the track, “Somebody’s Son”, though no other details were shared on the collab.
On Friday, the Sydney-formed act confirmed that the deluxe addition of the record, to be released on Friday, January 24th, will also include another new song called “Dark Secrets”.
Ask That God was released in July last year; Empire of the Sun’s fourth studio album and the first record from Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore since 2016’s Two Vines.
“We tried many things over the course of the last seven or so years,” Littlemore told Rolling Stone Australia in a recent interview.
“But, you know, I feel like Empire’s always on divine time. And when it was the right time, we were sort of urged, I would say, from some kind of deep recesses in our subconscious. And here we are today with a collection of songs that we are extremely proud of.”
After supporting the album with a string of live shows throughout Australia, Empire embarked on a short run in the US, including LA’s famous Hollywood Bowl.
They are are also featured as one of the headline acts at next month’s Party in the Paddock festival in Tasmania, which will also include performances from fellow local acts like Amyl & The Sniffers, Slowly Slowly, Thelma Plum, Angie McMahon and The Dreggs, as well as international talent like The Kooks, Aurora and Oliver Tree.
Steele also featured in the latest addition of Rolling Stone‘s Musician on Musician series alongside Tones And I. Check it out here.
