While we’re all settling back into the new year, the album announcements just keep coming—this time, it’s grentperez’s turn.
The Sydney artist has announced his debut album, Backflips in a Restaurant, dropping on March 28th.
To celebrate, he’s released a dreamy new single, “Dandelion,” featuring Ruel. The track is accompanied by a stunning video of grentperez singing in a lush flower field, perfectly matching the soft indie-pop vibes he’s known for. “Dandelion” is the third taste of the album, following earlier singles “Fuzzy Feeling” and “2DK.”
Speaking about the album, grentperez shares:
“Backflips in a Restaurant is a taste of what’s to come in my artistry. I wanted to use this album to express who I am as an artist and a creator, what I have to offer in terms of differing genres and in this case; flavour. Growing up, I soaked up a lot of music from 70s soft rock, to 2000s R&B, Bossa Nova, Indie, Rap, etc… This music effectively influenced my music making, and since my first release in 2021, I’ve been itching to explore and experiment with my sound. As a creative, I believe my job is to constantly explore and express myself, and with Backflips in a Restaurant I’m taking the steps to do just that.”
The album follows his 2023 EP, When We Were Younger, a nostalgic seven-track collection that helped establish his unique space in indie pop.
grentperez was also featured in Rolling Stone AU/NZ’s Future of Music series, where he was praised for his “genre-bending ability” and “distinctive falsetto.” The feature also highlighted his collaborations with Lime Cordiale, supporting Rex Orange County, and his North American headline tour, cementing his global rise.
“It might be neat to hail someone as a ‘Gen Z artist,’ but grentperez fully fits the bill, handling the jump from bedroom-pop-unknown to international recognition with aplomb,” the feature noted.
