The nominees for the 2025 Golden Globe Awards were announced this morning, with Emilia Pérez, Wicked, The Bear, and Shōgun all among the major titles competing for multiple awards.

Emilia Pérez, Jacques Audiard’s acclaimed musical about a transgender cartel boss, led all film nominees with 10, including Best Picture – Musical or Comedy, and acting nods for all three of its stars, Karla Sofía Gascón, Selena Gomez, and Zoe Saldaña. Audiard was nominated for Best Director and Screenplay, while the film’s music team — led by Clément Ducol and Camille — also picked up nominations in Best Original Score and Song.

Meanwhile, Brady Corbet’s epic historical drama The Brutalist had an equally strong showing with seven nominations, including Best Picture – Drama. Corbet also scored directing and screenplay looks, sharing the latter with Mona Fastvold. And stars Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones, and Guy Pearce all received acting nominations.

In the Best Picture – Musical or Comedy category, Emilia Pérez will be up against Anora, Challengers, A Real Pain, The Substance, and Wicked. And in Best Picture – Drama, The Brutalist will compete against A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Dune: Part Two, Nickel Boys, September 5.

In the film categories, both Wicked stars, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, picked up nominations for their performances in the hit musical. The Substance earned a solid five nominations, too, including nominations for Margarett Qualley and Demi Moore, and screenplay and director looks for Coralie Fargeat.

Timothée Chalamet was nominated for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, and Mikey Madison received a nod for her breakout turn in Anora. Sebastian Stan pulled off the impressive feat of securing two different acting nominations, one in Best Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for playing Donald Trump in The Apprentice, and the other in Best Male Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for his turn in A Different Man.

The 82nd Golden Globes will air live Jan 5, 2025 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount+. The ceremony will be hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser, and Ted Danson is set to receive the show’s Carol Burnett Award for Career Achievements.

Over in the television categories, The Bear led all nominees with five and will look to repeat some of its wins from the 2024 Golden Globes. It’s once again nominated for Best TV Series – Musical or Comedy, while stars Ayo Edebiri, Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Liza Colón-Zayas (who earned her first nomination).

Meanwhile, both Shōgun and Baby Reindeer will look to repeat some of their recent successes at the 2024 Emmy Awards. Shōgun is nominated for Best TV Series – Drama, and Hiroyuki Sanada, Anna Sawai, and Tadanobu Asano all earned acting nominations. And Baby Reindeer is up for Best Limited Series, with stars Richard Gadd and Jessica Gunning each earning acting nominations.

In Best TV Series – Musical or Comedy, The Bear will be up against Only Murders in the Building, Abbott Elementary, Hacks, The Gentlemen, and Nobody Wants This. And in Best TV Series – Drama, Shōgun will compete against The Day of the Jackal, The Diplomat, Mr. And Mrs. Smith, Slow Horses, and Squid Game (Season Two of which hasn’t premiered yet, but still met the Dec. 31 qualification deadline).

And in the Best Limited Series category, Baby Reindeer will compete against Disclaimer, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, The Penguin, Ripley, and True Detective: Night Country.

(The Golden Globes are produced by Dick Clark Productions, which is owned by Penske Media Corporation and Eldridge Industries; PMC is also the parent company of Rolling Stone.)
