It’s almost time for voting to open for triple j’s annual Hottest 100, and some familiar faces from home and abroad have revealed where their votes are going.
In a video posted on social media, big names such as pop superstar Olivia Rodrigo, Norwegian singer Girl in Red, and US singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams shared their votes.

All we know about Girl in Red’s vote is that she has chosen a song from a female artist. “Go vote for whoever you want. But I’m voting for her,” she tells us in the video.
Rodrigo, meanwhile, gushes about a song we are yet to be privy to. “I love it so much, I listen to it all the time,” she says secretly.
Local acts joined in on the fun too, with Ruel, Beddy Rays, The Jungle Giants and The Buoys throwing their respective hats into the ring on behalf of musicians yet to be named.
“This song has one of the best vocal deliveries I’ve heard in a long time,” one Beddy Rays member says to camera.
Sydney’s Ruel attempted to share his “number one pick” with us, but his final words are bleeped out with a grinning emoji.
A few Instagram comments joked that Rodrigo voted for a song from music producer Charlie Shell, whose single “Fallin in Love” can be heard bumping in the background. However, only time will tell if that was the case.
Voting for triple j’s Hottest 100 opens on Monday, December 9th, and closes on Monday, January 20th.
Doja Cat’s single “Paint the Town Red” took the top spot in the Hottest 100 of 2023. Her winning song was released in 2023 on the album Scarlet.
Doja Cat’s win broke new ground, with triple j hosts announcing she was the first solo female rapper and woman of colour to hit No. 1 on triple j’s annual countdown.
