Drax Project have released their first-ever live album, Live At The Jazz Cafe, London.
The platinum-selling Wellington pop-rock band recorded the album over two nights at the iconic Jazz Cafe venue in London during their July visit.
The album features live renditions of Drax Project’s hits like “Woke Up Late” and “Catching Feelings”, along with fan favourites like “All This Time”. It also includes the first live performances of tracks from their second album Upside, such as “Atmosphere”, “Oh My”, and “Luxury”.
“We’ve always wanted to put out an album that bridges the gap between our recorded music and live performance roots. We are also huge fans of many great artists who’ve previously played and recorded at The Jazz Cafe, so we had to take the chance to follow in such footsteps!” the band share.
In addition to their live album, Drax Project will be releasing a concert film, Drax Project: Live at The Jazz Cafe London, on December 20th. The forthcoming film, running over 70 minutes, will give fans an intimate front-row experience of a live Drax Project show, featuring performances and chat not included in the album version.
On the concert film, the band say, “For years, we’ve had people come up to us after shows and say things to the effect of, ‘we love your recorded music, but that was another level’, and so we really wanted to pull together something that could transfer the front row energy at one of our sets. We’re so excited to put out this record and film to celebrate the intimate and special experience that was playing at The Jazz Cafe!”
Drax Project completed their first international headline tour across the UK and Europe this year, with most shows selling out. It was a landmark moment for the four-piece, especially since their last tour there was all the way back in 2019 opening for none other than Christina Aguilera.
They came into the tour in a position of strength, fresh from the release of their latest album, Upside, which made Rolling Stone AU/NZ’s Best New Zealand Albums of 2023 list.
As we put it in our review, “It increasingly feels like New Zealand has another commercial behemoth akin to Six60 in the form of Drax Project… The Wellington pop rockers followed up their promising self-titled debut album with a second collection filled with just as many potential viral-ready hits, particularly the catchy ‘Atmosphere’ and ‘Disrespect’.”
Drax Project’s Live At The Jazz Cafe, London is out now.
