Young Franco is gearing up to drop his anticipated debut album, it’s Franky baby!, on January 24th.
This 10-track collection combines a smorgasbord of influences from the Brisbane producer – disco, Italo-disco, dance, rap, and punk – blending sounds from the UK, America, Italy, Nigeria, and Jamaica. Franco describes the album as “an accumulation of all my friends, everyone I love, and artists I’ve been privileged to work alongside.”
The album also features an impressive roster of collaborators, including Denzel Curry, Master Peace, Franc Moody, EARTHGANG, Muroki, and more.
“Working with so many incredibly talented artists has been such a joy and gives so much value,” shares Franco. “This album is an ode to all the people I work with in music and is a celebration of great friends I’ve worked with.”
Alongside the album announcement, Franco has dropped his new single “Going On” featuring piri and MC DT, a track he’s hoping will become a summer anthem.
“I’ve always had a lot of respect for piri and all the records she puts out,” he says. “We worked together while I was in London. I was really inspired by all the UK garage sounds that I was listening at the time, going out to shows… piri is a very skilled writer, and we sort of just banged out that song in a day and ended up getting MC DT on it afterwards and put it all together. Then we shot a fun video clip.”
piri adds, “Being in the studio with Young Franco of course brought back memories of my time in Australia, so I was really channelling the sun and good energy I felt from that part of the world! This song is just about waking up and feeling good and having one of those rare days where everything just goes right, it was so much fun to work on and I feel it radiates those sunny vibes.”
To celebrate the album release, Franco will host a series of outdoor day parties, promising vibrant visuals, special guests like Kah-Lo, p-rallel, and Osmosis Jones, plus plenty of surprises (see full dates below).
In other exciting news, Young Franco has been selected as the next RADAR artist for Spotify’s global Emerging Creator Program. RADAR supports emerging artists, songwriters, and podcasters, helping to propel them into the spotlight. “Stoked to be on the lineup for RADAR! A bunch of friends and people I love have been on it including Royel Otis, Genesis Owusu and Vv Pete, which is sick. Plus, I’ve never been on a Billboard :),” Franco shares.
