As tens of thousands of people continue to protest the Treaty Principles Bill across Aotearoa this week, songs of freedom and emancipation seem to resonate more than ever. On that note, L.A.B and Stan Walker have released a cover of Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song” to celebrate their upcoming summer tour.

The two Aotearoa acts are billed to co-headline shows in January, joined by Corrella, Aaradhna, and AJA. The joint tour will take them to New Plymouth, Taupō, and more throughout the month.

In anticipation of their tour, L.A.B and Walker have been workshopping songs such as the former’s hit “Controller”, as well as a “Redemption Song” cover, which dropped today.

Joel Shadbolt plucks Marley’s iconic riff on acoustic guitar as a locked-in Walker sits beside him. The two performers then get lost in a song known for its powerful story of overcoming persecution.

Filmed at Auckland’s Roundhead Studios, their harmonies in the ballad’s second half particularly fill out the space with little effort.

The music and names of the three support acts for their summer tour are familiar in the NZ Top 20 Official Singles Chart and the Radioscope Top Airplay charts.

All three acts joining L.A.B and Walker also have lots going on. AJA announced her debut record KĀWAI, while Corrella dropped their new single “All There Is” today ahead of their next project, titled Skeletons. Both of their albums are scheduled for a November 29th release.

Final act Aaradhna released her long-awaited Sweet Surrender album today, which Rolling Stone AU/NZ described as being “an exquisite release and freedom.” It’s Aaradhna’s first album in eight years.
