Gordi has teamed up with Mercury Prize-winning artist SOAK for a new collaboration.
The pair combine sublimely on the heart-wrenching but freeing single “Lunch at Dune,” with Gordi having been a fan of the Irish singer-songwriter for a long time.
She eventually flew to Dublin to meet SOAK, learning how to “split the G of a Guinness” and appreciate the Leprechaun Museum and the sensations of a fast food Irish spice bag.
Gordi felt that SOAK was the missing element for “Lunch At Dune,” and the latter was more than happy to jump on the track.
“As a longtime fan of Gordi I was so hyped when she reached out to ask me to sing on this track. Something I’ve always found mesmerising about her work is that each song feels like its own little universe. I think ‘Lunch at Dune’ is a great example of this, a world of its own,” SOAK says.
“The song is about feeling like there is something insurmountable in front of you and the only way through is perspective. In ‘Lunch at Dune,’ I’m trying to give that perspective to someone I love,” Gordi adds.
Tethered together only by a string, the two artists show an inseparable bond in the accompanying music video co-directed by Madeleine Purdy and Ashleigh Pepper. Gordi and SOAK dip their bodies into the cold ocean upon reunion around Ireland’s Malahide.
“I was less hyped when Sophie [Gordi] asked me to jump in the freezing Irish sea at the start of winter for the video but I obliged and have since returned to my normal skin tone,” SOAK muses.
Gordi also announces that an EP of the same name is due to be released on November 15th. She pledges a “new sonic sphere” of music, which Australians, Europeans and Brits alike will be able to hear on tour soon (tickets here).
Gordi & SOAK’s “Lunch at Dune” is out now. Lunch at Dune (EP) is out November 15th via Mushroom Music.
